About Us

The Education Foundation of Anaheim Hills (EFAH) was founded in February 2016 with a straightforward mission. We exist to invest directly in the education of students at Running Springs Elementary School, and empower teachers and administrators to be innovators in learning.

This includes investment in classroom technology and supporting new STEM programs that augment the existing curriculum, with the goal of helping our children to become 21st century leaders.

The EFAH Board of Directors is comprised of parents and community members from the Anaheim Hills area that volunteer their time, talents and expertise to carry out the EFAH mission.

Janet Kwon, President

About Janet: Anaheim Hills is a hidden gem and we love raising our children here since 2008. My husband, Steve, and I have a child at El Rancho Charter School (alum of Running Springs Elementary) and another child at Running Springs Elementary. I have been a Team Mom, a Room Parent, a volunteer for PTA events, and served on the School Site Council.

I attained a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Smith College and graduated with a Multiple Subject K-12 Teaching certificate. I was then recruited, and accepted, to teach 4th grade by the Corona-Norco Unified District. While there, I furthered my teaching experience by substituting K-6 during off months and teaching Adult ESL.

I then attended Harvard Graduate School of Education where I earned my Ed.M. with a concentration in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. I continued my career by accepting positions at the University of California Irvine: first providing college counseling for underrepresented communities in LA and Orange Counties and then as a Scholarship Coordinator for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. I currently work as a college admissions consultant, providing guidance to families through high school and the college application process.

I deeply believe that as parents and community members, we have a responsibility to ensure the best education for our children. Running Springs Elementary is a fantastic school with amazing administration and staff. We can make it even better by raising funds and encouraging innovation in teaching and learning. I am passionate about this endeavor and serving as a board member to raise funds to make our vision a reality.

Sandeep Baweja, Vice President

About Sandeep: It’s‌ ‌all‌ ‌about‌ ‌the‌ ‌kids. ‌ ‌For‌ ‌me,‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌that‌ ‌simple. ‌ ‌My‌ ‌wife‌ ‌Shruti‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌three‌ ‌children‌ ‌at‌ ‌Running‌ ‌Springs‌ ‌Elementary.‌ ‌So‌ ‌investing‌ ‌in‌ ‌our‌ ‌children‌ ‌is‌ ‌our‌ ‌top‌ ‌priority,‌ ‌which‌ ‌motivates‌ ‌my‌ ‌involvement‌ ‌with‌ ‌our‌ ‌community’s‌ ‌Education‌ ‌Foundation.‌ ‌I‌ ‌graduated‌ ‌from‌ ‌UC‌ ‌Santa‌ ‌Barbara‌ ‌with‌ ‌degrees‌ ‌in‌ ‌philosophy‌ ‌and‌ ‌history.‌ ‌I‌ ‌then‌ ‌obtained‌ ‌my‌ ‌law‌ ‌degree‌ ‌from‌ ‌Syracuse‌ ‌University. ‌ ‌

After‌ ‌initially‌ ‌practicing‌ ‌law,‌ ‌I‌ ‌became‌ ‌Vice‌ ‌President‌ ‌Al‌ ‌Gore’s‌ ‌Political‌ ‌Director‌ ‌for‌ ‌Washington‌ ‌State,‌ ‌where‌ ‌I‌ ‌ran‌ ‌his‌ ‌2000‌ ‌presidential‌ ‌campaign. ‌ ‌This‌ ‌was‌ ‌the‌ ‌most‌ ‌challenging,‌ ‌frustrating,‌ ‌exhausting,‌ ‌fun,‌ ‌exciting,‌ ‌amazing‌ ‌experience‌ ‌of‌ ‌my‌ ‌life.‌ ‌It‌ ‌was‌ ‌also‌ ‌the‌ ‌most‌ ‌illuminating‌ ‌as‌ ‌well. ‌ ‌I‌ ‌worked‌ ‌with‌ ‌numerous‌ ‌organizations‌ ‌on‌ ‌varied‌ ‌causes,‌ ‌including‌ ‌educators‌ ‌and‌ ‌teachers‌ ‌unions. ‌ ‌As‌ ‌a‌ ‌result,‌ ‌I‌ ‌gained‌ ‌a‌ ‌true‌ ‌appreciation‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌vital‌ ‌role‌ ‌of‌ ‌grassroots‌ ‌community‌ ‌activism.‌ ‌I‌ ‌now‌ ‌serve‌ ‌as‌ ‌President‌ ‌of‌ ‌Intellex‌ ‌Strategic‌ ‌Consulting,‌ ‌a‌ ‌business‌ ‌consulting‌ ‌firm‌ ‌based‌ ‌in‌ ‌Anaheim,‌ ‌which‌ ‌works‌ ‌with‌ ‌small‌ ‌companies‌ ‌on‌ ‌growth‌ ‌strategy,‌ ‌business‌ ‌development,‌ ‌and‌ ‌risk‌ ‌management.

In‌ ‌my‌ ‌spare‌ ‌time,‌ ‌I‌ ‌coach‌ ‌competitive‌ ‌youth‌ ‌soccer‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌Chelsea‌ ‌Soccer‌ ‌Club‌ ‌and‌ ‌remain‌ ‌active‌ ‌with‌ ‌charitable‌ ‌causes‌ ‌benefiting ‌children,‌ ‌such‌ ‌as‌ ‌the‌ ‌Orangewood‌ ‌Children’s‌ ‌Home.‌ ‌The‌ ‌Foundation‌ ‌is‌ ‌dedicated‌ ‌to‌ ‌preparing‌ ‌our‌ ‌kids‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌21‌st‌‌ ‌century,‌ ‌to‌ ‌compete‌ ‌and‌ ‌succeed‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌tech-driven‌ ‌era.‌ ‌Since‌ ‌technology‌ ‌embraces‌ ‌every‌ ‌aspect‌ ‌of‌ ‌our‌ ‌lives,‌ ‌so‌ ‌too‌ ‌must‌ ‌our‌ ‌children’s‌ ‌education‌ ‌embrace‌ ‌technology.‌ ‌The‌ ‌Foundation’s‌ ‌mission,‌ ‌therefore,‌ ‌is‌ ‌spot‌ ‌on.‌ ‌It’s‌ ‌exciting‌ ‌to‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌its‌ ‌timely‌ ‌and‌ ‌visionary‌ ‌efforts.‌

Brandi Lau, Board Member

About Brandi: My husband, Casey, and I moved to Anaheim Hills in 1999 after we got married. After growing up in Yorba Linda, I knew a tight-knit community was where I wanted to raise our children and we found that in Anaheim Hills. We have two boys – one who graduated from Running Springs and is an 8th grader at El Rancho and one that is a 5th grader at Running Springs.

I graduated from UC Riverside with a Business/Marketing Degree and have worked in Advertising for over 20 years. I currently work at Global Team Blue, the Ad Agency for Ford Motor Company as a Media Director, overseeing Media Planning for the Ford dealers in the Western Region. I’m a full-time working mom who travels, but regardless of how busy life is, I always try to help in the classroom or volunteer at school events. I also served as the Running Springs PTA Newsletter Editor for 2 years.

My husband is also very passionate about being involved with our children and coaches just about every sport they have ever played, from baseball to flag football and everything in between. I joke that if I’m not in a meeting or on an airplane, I’m somewhere on a field supporting my boys! My husband and I have both stressed the importance of education to our children. Working in the Marketing world every day, I see the need to evolve with the latest digital knowledge and how it affects our accomplishments. Being competitive is the only way we will ensure our children will have great success in their future. I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of the Education Foundation and to see technology be integrated into their daily culture.

Katherine Heidelman, Board Member

About Katherine: My late husband Bill and I moved to Anaheim Hills in 1998. We fell in love with the neighborhood when looking to put down roots and have never regretted it!. We have 4 children, one who attended K-6 at Running Springs and is now a Junior at Xavier University. Our twins are in sixth grade and we have a fourth grader. As a member of the RSE PTA since 2002, I have been a Board Member, chair of the Talent Show for 7 years, I have been a room mom and volunteered in the classrooms, while balancing my career. I also was a delegate to the State PTA convention, where my passion for technology and education were sparked.

I am a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Industrial Engineering. I have worked my entire career in the telecommunication industry, building teams that support the Education and Public Sector verticals. I worked for SkyTel, Nextel/Sprint, Dimension Data, (a Cisco partner), and most recently am an Account Manager for Spectrum Enterprise. I hold a Cisco Sales Certification, and have also been certified on multiple technologies that are centered around 21st century learning. My career experience, combined with raising kids across two decades, has given me a unique look into technology and the impact to education. My passion is to help our children utilize the tools that are available, while making sure the infrastructure and professional development for our educators is in place.

I have partnered with school districts across all of California to implement BYOD and one-to-one programs as well as prepare for Common Core testing. This includes network optimization, equipment testing, as well as implementation and future planning for “flipping the classrooms”. Running Springs has made great strides with upgrading their network and now the STEAM lab. I am excited to help move the technology forward even more and help make RSE a flagship technology school for Orange County. I am excited to see what we can accomplish as a community.
